Hindalco's Aluminium Alloy Wheel plant is located at Silvassa, about 150 kms from Mumbai. The plant has been set up with technical assistance from Stahlschmidt & Maiworm of Germany, ranked world leaders in alloy wheels. The plant capacity is 300,000 wheels per year, which can be increased to 600,000 wheels per year. The casting technology used is "Low Pressure Die Casting". Size range - 12 to 18 inches diameter wheels for passenger cars and SUVs.
"Aura" is the brand name under which the wheels are sold in India, through an established distribution network. Alloy Wheels have been exported to various countries such as US, UK, South Africa, UAE, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
Hindalco's OEM tie-ups in India include Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Ford, Honda, General Motors, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, Fiat, ICML & Reva.
Hindalco was awarded the prestigious ISO/TS 16949:2002 certification by RWTUV, Germany for its alloy wheel plant in May 2003, one of the first companies in the world to achieve this certification. It had earlier been conferred the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 certification by RWTUV for its foil and wheel operations
The alloy wheel plant has commissioned a state-of-the-art CNC machine line from IMT, Italy, with a throughput of up to 720 wheels per day. The company has sourced most of its dies from Stahlschmidt & Maiworm, Germany, which is among the world leaders in alloy wheels.
